This weekend's college football locale

Over the past decade, I have been using my weekends (and occasional weekdays/weeknights) to travel to FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) college football venues across this great land.  By the end of this season, I will have attended a game at all 128 FBS stadiums.  This weekend's destination (Saturday, November 21, 2015) is Hattiesburg, Mississippi, home of the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles who will be hosting their Conference USA rival Old Dominion.  The final stop (on Saturday, December 5th) will be the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.  It's been a long journey as I have leveraged my location during the weeks I travel on business in order to attend these games.  It is my hope to publish a coffee table book consisting of my pictures and a description of the unique features of each locale.  Thanks and have a great weekend.

Georgia Tech - Atlanta

The college football season got started with a bang as I drove from Birmingham to Atlanta to see Georgia Tech open its season against 1-AA Jacksonville State. The Yellow Jackets easily handled the Gamecocks 41-14. Here are some pictures of the game day atmosphere.

College Football Season

Well, I can finally say it. It's game week, everyone. That's right. The college football season starts on Thursday night with a number of games across the country before the remaining teams kick off their season on Saturday. I will be attending three games over the long holiday weekend. Thursday night, I will be at Bobby Dodd Stadium for the Jacksonville State-Georgia Tech contest. Let's see if Paul Johnson's triple option offense can work in the ACC. On Saturday, I will be up in Charlottesville, Virginia for the USC-Virginia game. On Saturday night, I will take the train from D.C. to NYC to make one last visit to Yankee Stadium on Sunday afternoon for the Bluejays-Yankees game. For Monday, I will cross the river into Jersey to watch the Fresno State-Rutgers game in New Brunswick. Hopefully, I will be able to post pictures from all these sites. It's going to be an exciting weekend. Looking forward to it.

Celebrity passings

This past weekend saw the passing of two of my favorite show biz figures. Director Sydney Pollack passed away on Monday from cancer at the age of 73 and former Laugh-In star Dick Martin (one half of the Rowan and Martin comedy team) died on Saturday at the age of 83. Ironically, both men did an about face later in their careers. Pollack stepped in front of the camera to act in a number of films such as Tootsie, Husbands and Wives, Eyes Wide Shut and his last performances in Michael Clayton and Maid of Honor while Martin stepped behind the camera to become a prolific director of situation comedies like Newhart, Family Ties and Sledge Hammer.

Memorial Day Weekend

It's now midnight on this Monday morning, May 26th, 2008. On this Memorial Day holiday, I need to complete some tasks around the apartment in order to be more efficient with the space that I inhabit. I will lock the mountain bike in a secure space that will free up room so I can assemble the new treadmill that I bought from my boss.

Nothing much happening in the news or in sports. Although my interest in the NBA has been reawakened with the emergence of the Celtics this season. Game 4 tonight in Auburn Hills between the Celtics and the Pistons. If a Celtics-Lakers NBA final occurs, I think I'll watch every game of the series which I haven't done for a NBA final since the Jordan era. Relive those Showtime moments from the 80's.

Only 90+ days until the start of the college football season on Thursday night, August 28th. Auburn opens with Louisiana-Monroe, Texas Tech opens with Eastern Washington and USC travels to Charlottesville for a battle with Virginia.

Well, the first posting for my blog is now complete. What an experience.
