Celebrity passings

This past weekend saw the passing of two of my favorite show biz figures. Director Sydney Pollack passed away on Monday from cancer at the age of 73 and former Laugh-In star Dick Martin (one half of the Rowan and Martin comedy team) died on Saturday at the age of 83. Ironically, both men did an about face later in their careers. Pollack stepped in front of the camera to act in a number of films such as Tootsie, Husbands and Wives, Eyes Wide Shut and his last performances in Michael Clayton and Maid of Honor while Martin stepped behind the camera to become a prolific director of situation comedies like Newhart, Family Ties and Sledge Hammer.

Memorial Day Weekend

It's now midnight on this Monday morning, May 26th, 2008. On this Memorial Day holiday, I need to complete some tasks around the apartment in order to be more efficient with the space that I inhabit. I will lock the mountain bike in a secure space that will free up room so I can assemble the new treadmill that I bought from my boss.

Nothing much happening in the news or in sports. Although my interest in the NBA has been reawakened with the emergence of the Celtics this season. Game 4 tonight in Auburn Hills between the Celtics and the Pistons. If a Celtics-Lakers NBA final occurs, I think I'll watch every game of the series which I haven't done for a NBA final since the Jordan era. Relive those Showtime moments from the 80's.

Only 90+ days until the start of the college football season on Thursday night, August 28th. Auburn opens with Louisiana-Monroe, Texas Tech opens with Eastern Washington and USC travels to Charlottesville for a battle with Virginia.

Well, the first posting for my blog is now complete. What an experience.
